Its been a year and 4 months....

since Lucy's last food challenge. Lucy last had food(with our permission) when she was 10 months old. I can't believe its been that long already. I spoke to our allergist yesterday, and he feels that since lollipops were such a success that we have every reason to believe that NOW is the time to try a real food!!!
So, this afternoon......
Lucy had her very first taste of CANTALOUPE!!!
She loved it! It took her a few tries to get the hang of chewing and swallowing. At first she crammed all the little pieces in her bowl into her mouth, then gagged and spewed out the entire mouthful. But she tried again and caught on. As a matter of fact, after she finished the amount she was to start with, she went behind our backs and reloaded her bowl after sneaking into the fridge. We had to re-lock the fridge just to keep her out, and its been a while since we had to use that lock!
We truly are blessed that Lucy even WANTS to eat after having gone so long without. The vast majority of children in her position have to go through intense feeding therapy just to tolerate the texture of food in their mouths- so it truly is a gift that we do not have to struggle with such issues to trial a food. We do, however, have to deal with the risk that if Lucy does not tolerate cantaloupe that we will have to take it away from her. I really do not want to have to do that to her. Its so cruel, and is the most agonizing part of this process. Our hopes are high that she will get to keep her cantaloupe, so please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
This is SO exciting!!
